Best Deals in December 2020 (and What to Avoid!)

Happy December! Hopefully, you scored some deals over Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend, but if you still have shopping to do, the opportunities to save are far from over. The holiday shopping season continues with deep discounts on items like holiday gift sets and decor, winter apparel, and toys & games for all ages.  I’ve unearthed a lot of deals already, but we may see a flurry of surprise deals on Free Shipping Day, which is on December 14, and Super Saturday, which is on December 19. 

Gift Sets and holiday decor

If you are looking to kick your holiday decor up a notch or are on the hunt for a few more gift sets, you’re in luck! Smart shopping hint: If you’re buying decor, try to buy things that you can use throughout the year, like neutral colors or metallics, rather than red & green.

Kay Jewelers: Kay Jewelers is offering a discount on a variety of holiday charms – perfect for personalized gifts for loved ones! From December 7-14 during the Friends and Family Event, save between 25-50 percent off sitewide.

Winter apparel and winter footwear

Every year, retailers offer discounts on winter apparel to capitalize on holiday gift shopping. As the winter season progresses, expect deeper discounts as retailers look to clear space for the incoming spring collections. 

Anne Klein: Exclusively at the Facebook.com Anne Klein Shop through December 25, the Women’s Animal Print Snap Front Cape with snap front hardware and faux leather trim pocket opening will be $69.50 (regularly $129) and the Women’s Houndstooth Pullover Cape with a high collar neckline and faux leather piping will be $89.50 (regularly $179).

Believe it or not, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are not the only time to get deals on toys. I’ve found that discounts in December are often better. You will see promotions throughout the month, with a crush of deals earlier in the month and with sales heating up again as Super Saturday (Dec. 21) approaches. Target has been known to host a massive toy sale the week before Christmas.

 Fitness, Beauty, and Wellness: Gym memberships, workout DVDs, fitness equipment, and workout apparel are all more favorably priced in January. 

Linens: Since the late 1800s, January has been the month of “white sales”, when all manner of linens go on sale. Many stores, like Macy’s, Bloomingdales, and JCPenney slash prices on sheets and bedding to make way for new spring merchandise.
