Beauty Secrets: Bobbi Rebell
This week’s muse is Bobbi Rebell. Bobbi has a certificate in financial planning and is a rockstar financial journalist, speaker, and the author of “How to Be a Financial Grownup: Proven Advice from High Achievers on How to Live Your Dreams and Have Financial Freedom.” She is also is an award-winning TV anchor and personal finance columnist most recently at Thomson Reuters, where I had the pleasure of being interviewed by her. She was previously a reporter at PBS (Nightly Business Report) and held various producer positions at CNN and CNBC. She lives in NYC with her husband, 3 kids and her morkie Waffles. I checked in with Bobbi to learn about her beauty routine.
I’ve spent a lot of time with makeup artists and the one consistent thing they always tell me (and scold me for not doing enough of to this day) is drinking water. It is the ultimate moisturizer.
Here are Bobbi’s beauty secrets:
- “I have learned from makeup artists that things you don’t see still matter. For example, primer is essential, as it gets rid of any redness and can make your foundation last a lot longer. My favorite is MAC Prep and Primer. There is even a little sparkle in there!
2. I get so many compliments with the Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30. If I am not doing anything on camera the last thing I want to do is put on a full face of heavy makeup. I can put this on, add a little mascara (I use MAC In Extreme Dimension Waterproof) and a little lip gloss. One favorite new discovery are the lip glosses from Kevin Aucoin.
3. Walking is something I’m really big on. I try to leave an extra 15 minutes when I am going somewhere in New York City, so I can walk and avoid taking public transportation and taxis. I’ll often schedule walking meetings in central park if we don’t need to be on a computer. It also clears my head and helps me think of ideas for future projects. If I am alone, I try to make time to do a headspace meditation session. I like it so much I paid for a subscription (with a discount code)! That is huge coming from someone who prides herself on being extremely careful with so-called discretionary spending on things that you can get (mostly) for free. They even have meditation sessions for kids that come in handy at bedtime for my 9-year old!
4. My worth-it splurge is a subscription to a makeup studio called Blushington. It is kind of like Dry Bar, but for makeup. I do a lot of public speaking about my book and various money-related topics. For $250 a month, I get unlimited makeup applications – including false eyelashes. I use it two or three times a week so I think it is good value for me. Knowing a “pro” did my makeup gives me that extra boost of confidence when I get on stage!”
