5 Things I’m Loving Right Now in Beauty

posted in: Shopping Tips

In my opinion, spring and summer makeup should be fresh, bright, and light. Foundation/concealer should lightly cover without looking heavy, allowing the natural beauty of the skin to shine through. The color on the cheeks and lips should be vibrant, but sheer. More like a pop of color.  Eyes and brows should be defined, but not too strong.

Wondering what my favorite new discoveries are to achieve this look?  Read on…

Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder ($36)

This innovative, multi-functional balm uses Upsalite Technology, which helps it do all these magical things; including blurring the skin to make it look smoother and more even and balancing oils throughout the day. You can use it all over the face, including around the eye area as a light concealer and primer.  Available in 10 tinted shades (I use #4) and one universal shade.

Vapour Beauty Aura Multi-Stick ($36)

This handy stick from eco-friendly beauty brand, Vapour, can be used on the cheeks, lips, and eyes. There are several pretty shades, and I use the Sultry shade for a fun pop of color on my cheeks and lips.  Because I like a shiny lip, I add a dash of clear gloss on top.

iNN Beauty Lab Lip Oil ($15)

My lips tend to get dry, so I am always looking for moisturizing lip products. This lip glaze is a gloss and oil in one and it contains a plant-derived plumping complex that helps make lips look fuller. My favorite shade at the moment is Glaze #1/Candy Apple, which is a very sheer cherry shade that I use alone or over other products, like the Vapour Multi-Stick. There are several other shades available – I am very tempted to place an order!

NYX Mechanical Eye Liner ($4.24)

This liner is incredibly versatile. It can be used on the waterline or around the eyes. It’s great for defined lining or smudging and once applied, it really stays put. I like that it’s mechanical because I find that I end up wasting product when pencils need sharpening. Probably most importantly is that it doesn’t irritate my eyes like so many eyeliners do.  It’s available in several colors, but black is my go-to.

Saie Brow Butter ($20)

This brow pomade, which has won Best Brow Product from Byrdie and Glamour, has an unusual buttery texture that contains plant fibers to create full and filled-in brows that are not stiff or sticky. Bonus: unlike many tinted brow products, it’s very easy to apply just the right amount and it helps to cover my grays.
