Shopping deals: What to buy in April

Spring is here and that means the home and garden sales are in full swing. I share the details with Fox 5 NY’s Alison Morris.

Lowe’s has garden beds and fertilizer on sale. Look for discounts on seed and sod and all of that good spring stuff at Home Depot, too.

Trae says smart home products are also on sale this month. Jet has Sonos home speakers on sale. Micro Center has Samsung’s SmartThings Home Monitoring Kit for more than half off.

This is also a great time to buy toys and games. Walmart has ping pong tables for just $90. GameStophas up to 75 percent off PC downloads. And don’t forget, the Toys “R” Us liquidation sales are on through April 20, but only in store. The retailer’s website shut down last week.

Keep an eye on Amazon.com for toy sales, too. Trae says Amazon had a big sale last year on toys, games, and popular card games, so she hopes to see those sales this year, too.

April is also a great time to buy smartphone accessories. Verizon Wireless has up to 50 percent off headphones and other accessories through April 30. Best Buy has the Series 1 Apple Watch for $179.

Things to avoid this month? Mattresses and patio furniture, which go on sale around Memorial Day.

Also keep an eye out for friends and family discounts, which tend to happen this time of year.
