Va. (WSET) — If you’re looking for ways to make your hard-earned money last, experts say the secret is to get creative.

Maybe you’ve used social media or resale apps to get rid of unwanted clothes or furniture, but smart shopping expert Trae Bodge said there’s still a lot you don’t know.

“Now we know about Facebook marketplace and eBay where we can sell peer to peer, and that is a great option. However, there are platforms that will buy things that you no longer want, and they’ll pay you out very quickly so you don’t have to do much,” Bodge said.

Alternative platforms like Alloy Market will buy broken or no longer worn gold pieces, then there’s Backmarket that buys your used tech, and MPB does the same for camera equipment, according to Bodge.

Another way to make a few bucks – referral fees. Bodge says you’re probably already telling your friends how much you like a service or credit card, so why not get paid for it?

Apps like Mint Mobile and Flashfood are convenient and fun ways to get paid.

“For example, Mint Mobile, which is my favorite budget-friendly mobile service, you can earn up to $90 with a successful referral that is money in your pocket.”

Other apps like Flashfood can save you 50 percent off just by ordering food through their app – another convenient way to make some extra cash.
