With the holidays quickly approaching, consumers are on the hunt for the best bargains. There are a few prime opportunities on Wednesday and this week as Amazon Prime wraps up Big Deal Days. But it’s not just Amazon. Other major retailers like Target, Walmart, and Best Buy are also offering discounts this week.

“This is a really good time to shop, not only for holiday gifts if you can think about it that far in advance, but also for items for your home,” Trae Bodge, a smart shopping expert with TrueTrae.com, said.

Bodge has been seeking out shopping tips for more than a decade. When to comes to Amazon’s two-day sale, she gave out a few recommendations including, but not limited to:

  • Making a list of things you’re looking for, so you don’t go over budget.
  • Go to the ‘Today’s Deals’ page on Amazon Prime, which is up all year long but is your home base for Big Deals Days.
  • Look at your ‘Buy Again’ page, where household items you’ve bought in the past may be on sale.
  • Use Amazon’s chatbot named Rufus to help guide your shopping experience.

“It can be very helpful to ask questions like, are there a lot of returns on this item? Is this one of the lower prices you’ve seen, or is this a popular item? Is there something comparable? You can ask all sorts of questions like that of Rufus and get some really helpful answers,” Bodge said.

There’s also a service through Amazon’s camelcamelcamel.com, where customers can compare the current and past prices of products to make sure they’re getting the best price.

“What you always want to do is a little bit of extra homework to make sure that you have a sense of the landscape. So, I would use maybe Yahoo shopping or Google shopping. Enter the name of the item that you’re looking for so you can see where it’s on sale and for how much,” Bodge said.
