Families can take several steps to cut grocery costs as summer starts and food prices remain higher than before the pandemic.

“So if you’re going to the grocery store, a few things that I recommend you keep in mind, you want to join the loyalty programs, so you could earn points, you want to pay the right way, using a credit card that allows you to earn some points and cash back, avoid prepared foods, buy in bulk, and really look at those unit prices and go for the lower unit prices and that typically means the storebrand, because that’s a better value than,” said Trae Bodge.

Bodge, a smart shopping expert with TrueTrae.com, said food prices around the country have jumped nearly 25% since the pandemic. She also said shoppers should watch for coupons that come in the mail.

“There’s something that some families are forgetting to do is using those circulars that are sitting in your mailbox, you may just throw them in the recycling, take a look at those circulars and plan your menu around what’s on sale, you can do really well that,” said Bodge.

Free meal programs are available this summer for kids. More information is available HERE.
