As we get ready to send our kids back to class, back-to-school spending is expected to hit a record $37 billion nationwide.
News 12‘s consumer reporter Janice Lieberman has The Real Deal on how to save.
Shopping expert Trae Bodge says make a list ahead of time and stick to it, and use cost saving apps like Coupon Cabin where you can save 4-5% cash back.
“They have an app that you can use in store and look for savings in real time or they have a browser extension, that you can install and use when you’re shopping. It’ll alert you to available savings that can be combined with an existing sale, so it’s a great way to save even more and really, really easy to do,” says Bodge.
If you have multiple kids, or want to split the cost with another family, buying in bulk is cheaper.
No doubt your tweens will be asking for a phone. Bodge says this is a great time to do a hand-me-down – upgrade a phone for yourself, and give your phone to your child.
Don’t forget to see what they have from last year.
Your older kids can shop the mall themselves – with a budget! Consider giving them a pre-paid gift card from Visa or MasterCard that they can use at any retailer.
