*My daughter received complimentary Invisalign® treatment, due to my collaboration with the brand, but all opinions are my own.
Any parent will tell you – parenting teens is not easy! And while technology may be the cause of many parent/child disputes, technology can also make our jobs easier. Much easier. Here are 4 ways technology can do miraculous things like parenting your teen, from helping them stay calm to easing the process of teeth straightening.
Managing Their Screen Time
It’s hard to know how much time your teen spends on their device, but the answer is probably too much! Circle Home is a device that pairs with your home Wi-Fi and allows you to manage the devices on that network. You can set daily time limits, including limits per platform – like Snapchat or Instagram – set times when the device is off (like bedtime) and give rewards for good behavior. Once you purchase the device, the home service is free. You can also upgrade to monitor their usage outside of the home for $4.99 per month.
Straightening Their Teeth
My daughter has been using Invisalign® clear aligners and we both love seeing her amazing results and really appreciate the role technology plays in her treatment – we feel like we’re living in the future! At our first orthodontist visit, we got to see Sadie’s plan in 3D right there on the computer. The doctor mapped out a custom plan that included tooth movement and treatment time, and we were able to see what her new smile could look like! With digital scanning in lieu of conventional messy impressions and SmartTrack material, Invisalign aligners will straighten your teen’s teeth, with predictable results. Helping Them Relax
Meditation and mindfulness can be really helpful for kids who tend to be anxious, overwhelmed or have trouble sleeping. Thanks to technology, they can learn these skills on their own time, in a way that works for them by using an app like Calm, which is a meditation and sleep aid app and website. They have a really helpful program, Calm Kids, which is tailored for kids all the way through high school.
Now that your teen is at the age where they are more independent, using a GPS tracking app, like Life360, is a great way to see where they are – and make sure they are where they are supposed to be. You can build private groups on the app where members can see each other’s locations, send messages and even see whose phone battery needs recharging.
