How to Get Free Samples from 20+ Stores

posted in: Shopping Tips

I love free stuff and I’m sure you do, too! Lucky for us, there are lots of ways to receive free goodies. You probably already know that you can often find free food samples at your local grocery store, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods or Costco, but there are lots of ways to receive free sample sizes – and sometimes full sizes – online. From popular lifestyle magazines to online retailers, free stuff awaits you! Read on to learn how to get free samples from stores:

Allure Beauty Enthusiasts

After completing a lengthy beauty-related survey, you can become an Allure Enthusiast. Enthusiasts periodically receive free samples to try and are asked to provide feedback. I applied and expected not to be accepted because I’ve worked in the beauty industry and write about beauty, but I breezed through!

Amazon Prime Kindle Books

If you are am Amazon Prime member, you know that lots of perks come with your membership. A lesser-known perk is that in addition to the free samples you can get of most Kindle books, you can also download select whole Kindle books for free. Many of them are classics or other non-current options. And every month, members can download one of a handful of new releases.

Boxed.com

When you order with this online wholesale club, you can choose two free samples from a small range of options. Samples can include a full-size flavored seltzer, a snack-size of fruit gummies or a roll of toilet paper. I’m a Boxed.com customer and love that they charge no membership fees, unlike Costco or Sam’s Club. I’ve included my referral link if you’d like to check it out. You’ll receive $15 off your first order – and I’ll receive a credit as well, so thanks!

Bzzagent

If you are an active social media user, this might be a club to join. Bzzagent partners with major brands, like Gillette, Purina, and Samsonite, and provides its members with free samples to evaluate and review on their social media platforms.

CondeNast Try It

This program is a sampling program by the Conde Nast group, which owns a number of lifestyle magazines, including Allure, Self and Vogue. If you qualify to participate, you will receive free samples and be asked to provide feedback.

Elle Inner Circle

To join the Elle magazine Inner Circle, you need to fill out a very brief survey. Members of the inner circle receive free samples and are asked to complete surveys to share their opinions.

FreeSampleFinder

Provide your email and gain access to free samples from a variety of brands. Sample offers change all the time, but at the time of this writing, a variety of mass market bath gels were being offered. I’ll warn you that to participate, a dizzyingly long questionnaire must be completed. I ran out of gas after about 30 questions…

GH+ Club

This new offering from Good Housekeeping magazine gives you access to opportunities to test free products, members-only discounts on products, bonus materials, and a visit to the Good Housekeeing Institute (if you happen to be in NYC), all for the price of a subscription ($2/month).

Glamour Glamspotters

Similar to the Allure Beauty Enthusiast program, you need to complete a long survey (about 10 minutes) to apply. Glamspotters receive samples and surveys to complete in response.

Godiva Rewards

Join the Godiva Rewards Club and in addition to coupons and early access to sales, you will receive free chocolate on your birthday. Also, if you spend at least $10, you will receive a free sample every month. It’s not clear from their site whether they mean $10 per month or $10 per year.

Grove Collaborative

This site specializes in environmentally-conscious household essentials, like paper products and cleaning solutions. They have proprietary brands and also stock well-known brands, like Mrs. Meyers and Seventh Generation. Fairly frequently, they will offer something free with a minimum order, like a free hand cream or a free storage bucket for your cleaning products (I have received both). I’ve included my referral link, which will allow you to receive a free 5-piece Mrs. Meyers set with your first order.

Instyle Trendsetters

Through this program, you can try free samples and provide your opinion on the samples and on other topics relevant to the Instyle readership. The survey was quite short – it took just a few minutes, unlike the longer Allure and Glamour surveys.

Kiehl’s

With a Kiehls.com order, you can choose a couple of free samples from a selection of products. Same goes for when you shop in their store, although, in-store, you could probably walk away with more than just a couple, simply by asking (I used to work there).

L’Oreal Consumer Testing Bureau

Through the L’Oreal Consumer Testing Bureau, consumers can evaluate a variety of L’Oreal products. There are onsite testing opportunities in New Jersey and Ohio, but it’s also possible to receive products in the mail. Once approved, you can visit the site and complete surveys that will qualify you to test certain products.

L’Oreal Paris

On the L’Oreal Paris site, you can periodically find offers to receive free samples. At the time of this writing, there were discounts available for a variety of L’Oreal Paris products, but no free samples on offer.

Perricone MD

When you order from this dermatologist-founded skincare line, you will receive a free sample with your order.

Pink Panel

Owned by research firm, The Benchmarking Company, the Pink Panel sends its members free samples of skincare and makeup products with the expectation that you will provide feedback. Sometimes, members will even be offered a stipend of $50-$200 for participating, and there are monthly prize drawings for members. The survey is quite brief to complete – only about five minutes.

PinchMe

This service will send you free samples to try once you complete a short online form and RSVP for and “attend” their monthly online Sample Tuesdays event. When you attend the event, you’ll be asked to select your preferred samples and they’ll be sent to you free of charge. You’ll be asked at a later date for your feedback. You can also take quizzes via QuizMe to qualify for additional samples and discount offers.

Prescriptives

When you order $25 or more from this skincare and makeup line, you will receive 6 free samples with your order.

Sephora

With any online order, you can select two free beauty samples from a range of offerings. You should also sign up for their free Beauty Insider program, as you can accrue points every time you shop. Points can be redeemed for more samples, and when it’s your birthday, you’ll receive your choice of one of two gifts, which you must claim in-store.  It’s important to note that when you shop in-store, there are often samples available at checkout – if you ask.

Smashbox

When you place an order with this makeup line, you’ll receive free samples with your order.

Smiley

This site is good for people who are active on social media. Once you sign up, brands will send you free samples in exchange for honest reviews on your social platforms.

T-Mobile

On T-Mobile Tuesdays, you can get all sorts of things for free from T-Mobile. Current offerings include a free Taco from Taco Bell, and a $10 credit for Rover.com, a site that sells pet supplies.

Viewpoints

You can sometimes get free samples from this site. The expectation is that the samples are given exchange for a written review of the items you’ve tried.
