Beauty Secrets – Tia Williams

posted in: Beauty Secrets

Beauty Secrets is where you can learn about the beauty-full inner workings of women who are moving and shaking in their world, whether it be beauty, personal finance or somewhere in between.

This week’s muse is Tia Williams, whom I met years ago when she was a beauty editor at Elle and I was still with the beauty brand I co-founded, Three Custom Color Specialists. Tia has also been a beauty editor at Lucky, Glamour, Teen People, and Essence.com. She created one of the first style blogs, the award-winning ShakeYourBeauty. She’s the best-selling author of The Accidental Diva and the It Chicks series, and co-writer of Iman’s The Beauty of Color. Currently the copy director at Bumble and bumble, her latest novel, The Perfect Find, debuted this spring.

Here are Tia’s beauty secrets:

  1. “As a single mother with an insane career and after-hours writing schedule, I have zero time. For, like, anything. I’m so exhausted by the end of the day, it’s hard to keep up with a strict skincare regimen. Instead, I stand in the truth of my laziness, and keep a pack of Estee Lauder Take it Away Makeup Remover Towelettes and Origins A Perfect World moisturizer on my nightstand.
When I get into bed at night, I quickly swipe my face with a wipe, toss it in the trash, apply moisturizer, and pass out.

2. I have pretty serious yellow undertones in my skin, and after a long, sunless winter, my complexion can get pretty sallow. I warm things up by swirling a huge, fluffy brush in MAC Skinfinish Bronzing Powder in Refined Golden, and blending over my cheekbones (pre-blush), lids, and down my nosebridge. It’s the only way I look alive without an actual tan!

3. When I was writing The Perfect Find, I was constantly drinking water, chewing gum, gnawing on my nails, eating Skittles – all activities that ruin your lipstick. I’ve fallen in love with long-wearing, velvety-matte stains, and tried almost all on the market. My hands-down favorite is Maybelline’s ColorBlur Cream Matte Pencil collection. They come in the boldest, most richly pigmented colors (I love the red and pale pink), and don’t budge until you wipe them off. The best part? The shades are matte without being at all drying, which is important when your lips are always slightly chapped – like mine.

origins a perfect world
