So, what is “Beauty Secrets”? Beauty Secrets is where you can learn about the beauty-full inner workings of women who are moving and shaking in their world, whether it be beauty, personal finance or some territory in between.
Today’s muse is Emma Johnson, a personal finance expert who I had the pleasure of working with during my years at RetailMeNot.com. Emma is a rockstar money writer and podcaster who has written for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, WORTH, Glamour, REAL SIMPLE, Parenting, Dr. Oz Good Life, Men’s Health, USA Today and others. Her blog, WealthySingleMommy, provides practical, and often hilarious, advice for single moms.
Here are Emma’s beauty secrets:
- “I try to get a good haircut that takes minimum styling and grows out evenly, and get a great color that is close to my natural hue (I’m a fan of Aveda coloring products). Then I spend 5 minutes drying my hair — no styling, just upside down drying — each day, and a trip to the salon every 3-4 months. I get tons of compliments on my hair.
- Coconut oil. Raw, organic, right from the grocery store jar in my bathroom. Use it daily as a cleanser — put on face, rub in, wait a few minutes as I brush my teeth, wipe all makeup and grime off with a hot wash cloth. Done. That’s it.
I’ve had several makeup artists tell me what great skin I have, which is a MIRACLE since I’ve had acne and crappy skin since I was 11.
Also great for skin moisturizer/lotion, softening calluses. de-frizzing your hair and removing kids’ fake tattoos.”
