Beauty Secrets is where you can learn about the beauty-full inner workings of women who are moving and shaking in their world, whether it be beauty, personal finance or somewhere in between.
This week’s muse is natural beauty powerhouse, Alexis Wolfer, who is the founder of the award-winner online magazine TheBeautyBean.com, the creator of the viral #MakeupFreeMondays movement, and the author of The Recipe For Radiance: Discover Beauty’s Best-Kept Secrets In Your Kitchen and Radiant Bride: The Beauty, Diet, Fitness, and Fashion Plan for Your Big Day (Running Press, 2014 and 2016, respectively). Mostly, though, she an empowering Real Beauty activist, working tirelessly to empower women though body-positive lifestyle content.
Here are Alexis’s beauty secrets:
- “My #1 beauty and lifestyle tip is to drink loads of water! I aim for a gallon per day – and am not against carrying around an absurdly large water bottle to help me get there. It not only helps keep my skin hydrated and clear from the inside out, it also helps boost my energy levels. (A lot of us don’t realize that dehydration makes us tired!)
- I travel a lot for work and am not afraid to look like a total grease ball at the airport so that I land looking my best! I always use a facial water (recently I’ve been loving Fig+Yarrow Complexion Water) and an oil (I love Goldfaden MD Fleuressence) and really slather it on to prevent dry skin and breakouts. On flights longer than 3 hours I reapply mid-flight too.
Oh, and I’ve been known to apply DHC Revitalizing Gel Strip Masks on redeye flights too! You may look crazy mid-air but you’ll look amazing when you land!
- When I have a pimple, I apply full-fat Greek yogurt as a spot treatment. Apply enough to cover and let it dry before rinsing off. The lactic acid helps unclog the pore, the fat hydrates, the probiotics balance bacteria, and the coolness helps reduce inflammation! It’s a game-changer! You can repeat it 2x/day, as needed, but you’ll see results immediately.
- If your feet are dry and cracked but you don’t have time for a pedicure, wipe a salicylic based acne pad on your feet and then cover with Vaseline and socks. The acne pad will help breakdown the dead skin cells and the vaseline will help heal. It’s not as relaxing as a spa pedicure, but it gets the job done!
